The most coveted and prestigious award is the Heisman Trophy which is given to the best player in the whole sport. With Week One rapidly approaching we are bound to see some players make meteoric rises into the conversation while some preseason favorites fade into mediocrity. With that being said, in no particular order, here are three players that could see themselves in New York City at the end of the season for the award.
1: Arch Manning
Arch Manning will certainly warrant attention for the Heisman Trophy this season, but not just for his name. Arch has an explosiveness to his scrambling game that makes him lethal in improvisation and designed runs , something that his uncles and his predecessor Ewers lacked. Manning will also have the spotlight upon himself to start the season with a game against the reigning national champions.
2: Jeremiah Smith
Smith is without a doubt the best receiver in college football, at least heading into the season. His ability to create separation on his routes and win the 50-50 balls made him lethal in the Chip Kelly offense. Now, with Brian Hartline manning the offensive playcalling, how will Jeremiah Smith be utilized? While some believe with Smith now becoming the clear go to guy after the departure of Emeka Egbuka he will have a Devonta Smith 2020-esque season, others believe Hartline’s lack of expereince will hamper his sophmore campaign. The Week One matchup against the Longhorns will be a strong indicator of how his sophmore season will go.
3: Jeremiyah Love
Jeremiyah Love has received a lot of dark horse consideration from the national media as he is regarded as the best returning running back in the whole country. Love has an explosiveness about him that college football has not really seen since Saquon Barkley at Penn State. Love has the ability to jump over defenders while also being able to rush for 98 yard touchdowns like he did against Indiana in the Playoffs. If Love is able to stay healthy, he can certainly take home the Heisman.
