Last week, it was announced that Charles Jagusah broke his arm in a UTV accident. Regardless of your opinion of him driving a UTV, putting him and the team at risk, Notre Dame finds themselves in a predicament. How do they plan on filling the Left Tackle position. Who would be options to fill the role? Lets take a look.
Anthonie Knapp
Knapp is the obvious option as he played left tackle most of the season before suffering a season ending injury in the semifinal game. The problem with that is Knapp projects better in the interior of the offensive line then the exterior and with Rocco Spindler transferring out, he’s been preparing to take over that spot. Therefore, I deem it unlikley that Knapp will fill the LT role as he would have to most likely move back to guard after Jagusah returns in October.
Guerby Lambert
Lambert is a redshirt freshmen and a highly touted recruit coming in last year. Lambert is 6’7 and projects nicely at LT. The question is how far has Lambert progressed during offseason workouts. Is he ready now to take on such a big responsibility? That will be up to Joe Rudolph to figure out in fall camp.
Will Black
Black is the highest regarded recruit out of all three names being ranked as a high five star by recruiting websites. Black is just as big as Lambert but more explosive, as shown by a viral clip of him housing a screen pass in his senior year of high school. Black has the most upside of all three but the question is does Freeman trust him like he did Knapp to start a primetime game in a hostile environment. Whatever the answer, it will become apparent in the upcoming days.
